I enjoy being homeless.

Correction: I enjoy being able to live, work and travel where I want. But this freedom does come with a price. There are certain small inconveniences that I have to deal with every now and then. One of them is the challenge of where to stay in Manila in the few days or weeks that I have to be there when I'm in between places.

Staying with friends and family seems to be the most logical solution. But I've realized that there will be moments when you want some space, privacy or even just a quiet place where you can rest your weary head.

I've recently discovered My City Suites where you can stay at a fully furnished condo on a short term basis. It's a perfect solution for travelers, online entrepreneurs or digital nomads like myself who need a home base on a temporary basis. And this place did deliver on it's promise of making you feel at home. Here's why I thoroughly enjoyed My City Suites experience:

10:00 PM

As soon as I arrived at the airport, I was spared from the long taxi queues and overcharging cab drivers. I was picked up by a very polite driver who brought a van with a lot of luggage space- more than enough for my surfboard and backpack. He chatted with me as he weaved expertly through Manila traffic. It's amazing how all guests are picked-up from the airport for free whether from international or domestic flights!

As soon as I arrived, I was handed a key and shown  to my room. It was very clean and tastefully decorated. They managed to get my breakfast preference for the next day before I ran into the bedroom. I was so tired from the trip and jumped right into a super comfy bed. I just dozed and slept in until late in the morning.

10:00 AM (next day)

I heard the doorbell and was served a great breakfast complete with coffee and the newspaper. It was a lovely way to start the day. There's nothing like a delicious, healthy breakfast delivered straight to your room especially when you're recovering from a long flight.

I decided to go out in the neighboring area for lunch. I've missed the city and wanted to explore. I felt so spoiled when I realized that the condo was just a quick walk from several malls and key commercial business districts. There were so many restaurants, bars and shops to choose from and all within walking distance!

I came back to find the room immaculately clean again. Everything was back in place and they even remade the bed! They had also changed the towels and washed the dishes. All I had to do was connect to the wifi and start my work day without worrying about anything else.

The Verdict

Whether it's a hotel or a serviced apartment, I still can't decide. It did feel like a luxurious compromise. All I know is that I had a very pleasant and memorable stay, however brief, at My City Suites condo. The best part of the whole experience was I was comfortable and pampered but I still felt at home. That's probably because the staff were just amazing. They were courteous and understanding of my needs. They knew how to take care of the small details.

If you're in Manila for a few days or weeks, I recommend you book your stay at My City Suites. I'm sure you'll discover how wonderful it is to have your own private space in the middle of this crazy city.
