Best Place for a Staycation in ManilaSaturday, March 24, 2012
What do you do when a couple of friends from abroad are spending a few nights in Manila and you're in between apartments?
Read: practically homeless.
Then you ask the your fairy godmother at Roomorama to wave her magic wand and get you a place big enough to host your friends in the heart of Makati. Yes, that's you Manda.

My first Roomorama experience in New York just blew my mind after I got to stay at a nice apartment in the East Village. Location is key. For the 2nd time around, I was with a bunch of friends and I knew location would play a big role in our experience. After all, one of my 2012 resolutions is to stop being a tourist by exploring more local places. And that includes "living" like one by staying at a local's place- especially while entertaining friends from abroad.
What are the minimum require for a staycation with friends ?
-at least 2 bedrooms
-huge TV to entertain ourselves
-big living room and dining area to hangout with a few drinks
Guess what we got:
✓ at least 2 bedrooms
✓ a huge TV to entertain ourselves
✓ big living room to hangout with a few drinks
✓ free wifi
✓ multiple stars hotel atmosphere
✓ central location
✓ friendly, customer service oriented host
I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that this was a 2 bedroom, 80 square meter unit with 2 bathrooms and a complete kitchen. It's perfect for a small family or group of friends! There's a 32 inch flat screen TV with cable that rounds out the apartment’s entertainment options. Plus complimentary use of high speed wifi as well as use of desktop computer with broadband internet access. How convenient!
I loved how the place was so tastefully decorated. There were pretty paintings and pictures strewn all over the unit. It had a very calming effect and made me wonder about the people who maintained it.
Just a few tiny minor annoyances to the unit:
a) You have a view of Greenbelt and the buildings of Ayala Avenue but these are obstructed views and not much to write home about.
b) Bathrooms could use more counter-space. And the towel racks shouldn't just be built for 6'4 types.
c) We need more garbage bins around the unit.
This place was right across Greenbelt 5! We couldn't believe our luck when we got to the building and discovered that it was right across ZARA. I'm not the shopaholic type but one of my friends were and we enjoyed spending a day in the maze of malls and shops. I don't know about you, but I love locations where I can just walk around and enjoy the sights. Makati is the perfect place for that. There are a lot of surrounding bars and clubs within walking distance. For the culturephiles, Ayala Museum is less than a 5 minute walk away. And the foodies? You have hundreds of restaurants within walking distance to choose from!
Given the nature of the unit’s surroundings (financial and shopping districts) it is not an exaggeration to say that the area is one of the safest in the country. One can walk around at night without any fear of anything bad happening. The building itself has round the clock security with roving security checks, so we felt very safe!
The cherry on top of this whole deal was Rafael, our host. He was super customer service oriented. He would inform us when the place was available. He kept our bags while we waited and went for a walk in the surrounding parks. He just had a big smile on his face and made sure we were comfortable and taken cared of for the whole duration of our 24 hour stay.
