Why Travel Ayngelina of Baconismagic.ca?

Very seldom do I encounter people who write with such honesty and openness in the blogosphere. People who stop you dead in your tracks and make you stop what you're doing to give them your full attention and continue reading.

Ayngelina is one of those people. I started reading her blog a few months back and I can truly relate to her stories and her journey. She is definitely someone who inspires us to travel more and be authentic. She's a Sole Sister through and through.

Read about why she travels:

My first travel experience was at 16. I am from a very small town of 5000 people in Canada and my mother sent me to France for the summer to learn French. It was an eye opening adventure that changed me for life.

Since then I've always tried to understand how other people live and learn from the differences. At 22 I moved to the Philippines to work for nine months. I was young and naive and was exposed to intense poverty for the first time. I was really moved at how generous people were when they had so little.

But after that I got caught up in a career and life and buying things that didn't really matter. After ten years I felt I had 'made it' in my career and had what many would call a successful life.

But something was tugging at my heart. I wasn't 100% happy.

For many people being 95% happy is good enough but all I could feel was this 5% emptiness.

I realized that my fertility clock was ticking and if I wanted to travel I had to do it now. Otherwise the boyfriend becomes husband, apartment becomes house, and free time becomes children.

I didn't want to travel alone. I was petrified. I wanted my boyfriend to come with me but it wasn't his dream. So we broke up, I quit my job, sold all my possessions and bought a one-way ticket to Mexico.

It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. But I realized the next stage in my life isn't husband/house/children but travel/adventure/inspiration.

Travel isn't for everyone but finding that 5% extra bit of happiness is. I hope when people read my site they see a bit of themselves in me and make choices in their own lives that reach that 100%.

Why Travel Wednesdays is a weekly series we're running. We're featuring fellow travelers and asking them the question: Why do you travel? Perhaps it will encourage more of us to walk the road less travelled and wrap our arms around the world one trip at a time! Next week, we're excited to feature a fellow girl nomad, Jeannie of http://www.nomadicchick.com/.

I have been travelling since the early 70's, and witnessed the growth in communication and internet opprtunities. Ayngelina, along with many other young travellers is poised to enjoy and share a vast new way of bringing information to the world.
Ayngelina is creating a place at the front of what could be a huge new media phenomenom.

I understand what you mean about finding that last 5% of happiness, everyone should seek for it.

Never just accept being 5% less happy than you know you could be :)

  7. Lois says:

I totally agree with her attitude Sofia. Don't settle for less than 100% happy. All we really want is joy.
